I've had soreness in my kneecap since I was a little girl. At that time, they called it "Trick Knee". For example, my knee cap would slip out of place when twisting, throwing a ball, etc. This caused much pain and my kneecap was unstable and became worse over time. Now, at 55 years old, and having taught young children for 24 years, I've had a total knee replacement. Day by day I'm feeling stronger. See an Orthoepedic surgeon. Don't wait as long as I did. Good luck to you!

Some teens, especially girls, tend to have knee problems. You outgrow them. Ice or heat helps, whichever feels better.

BUT, you should see the doctor and be sure that it's nothing to worry about. I had knee pains as a teen, that we thought was tendonitis, normal teenage-girl aches, and a few other things. Turned out I've had arthritis since I was four, and we could have been doing all kinds of things to fix the pain and prevent further damage. So a doctor visit is important, even though it's probably normal.

If you were/are in sports, that could be the possible cause. If you are overweight, that could also be a cause. Sometimes calcium can build up under your patella (knee cap) and cause it to click/crack when you bend it. If your BMI is on the high side, you may consider dropping a few lbs. Unfortunately there really isn't much that can be done for your knee. I know there are some laser surgeries where they zap the calcium, but seriously limited otherwise. Good luck!

when i was a little younger than you i had similar pain. i found out i had oschgood schlatter. basically i had grown really fast the the ligaments in my knees couldn't keep up and stretched. they are permanently swollen. use a heating pad and wear comfortable shoes. females are more prone to knee injuries because our hips cause uneven pressure on our knees. if it's really uncomfortable see a doc.

Time to tell mommy u need to go to the doctor. The sooner the better. Did u hurt it somehow? When I was your age I hurt my knee and I didn't let it heal and now at 30 I have arthritis already in it.
