There is an asteroid called "Asteroid2004XP14: that is headed for a near miss with Earth on Monday, July 3rd at 12:25AM. This asteroid will come to within 268,264 miles of Earth. This asteroid can be seen by seasoned observers with mid sized telescopes.

I can't think of any, especially at the distance of only 300,000 miles. And think about that for a moment: Almost everything that is free-travelling through space is normally moving around the speed of 64,000 mph. At that speed, the object would BE HERE in about 4.5 hours. Nor can I think of anything that is "orbiting" either our planet nor the Sun at such a close vincinity. My foremost hobby is astronomy, and in all of my astronomy magazines, there is no mention of anything like what you are discribing. Sorry.

(You should vote for Dave. He was the first to get it right.) It was called 2004 xp14 and it DID come close to Earth while going about 45,000 MPH. It only missed Earth by the aprox. distance of the moon. It was 1/2 miles wide. (Glad it missed us.) There are many NEO's out there. (Near Earth Orbit asteroids) a HUGE one is coming even closer in 2029 and scientists are keeping a real close eye on that one. If you all want to see a cool link and a big list of all of them, go to : http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/ca
(It's kind of scary when you see how many close ones are out there so don't freak out.) Vote for me if you don't want to give Dave credit for being first. (He was right too although my answer is more detailed.)
