My office manager told my coworker, who happens to be my best friend, that she thinks I have personal problems and may have been abused as a child. Fact is I was, but that is really none of her business and I never discussed that with her. I mentioned this to my boss today, while she is on vacation(I just found out last night). He wants me to have a meeting with him and her to discuss this. Problem is she has been trying to sabatoge me but because my boss likes me, he will not fire me on her behalf, although she hired me. She is very vindictive and could possibly really try something drastic now to make me lose my job. Should I ask my boss to not make a deal of it or should I persue with what he suggested?

She might have broken a law in saying something about your personal life on the job. Spend your week-end researching the laws in your state. I know that Federal law prohibits your boss from discriminating against a behavior or social "disorder". It sounds to me like she might be the one that needs to go! I think that you should go to the woman on your own and discuss w/her your feelings on the situation. It might help to carry a recorder in case she tries to threaten your job or something. Good luck!

I believe that you should pursue what he suggested because if you do not do anything about it now this could happen again. I also believe that a meeting would help so your boss can really see how rude the office manager was in interfering in your business.

You've already told your boss so you have to go through with whatever course of action he decides is best to resolve this. Try having another talk with him but don't push it. If you do have to sit down and go through this just stay calm and stick to the facts.

If you have been doing a good job and staying out of trouble you should have nothing to worry about.

You should quit worrying about what others say. That's in the past. As long as you don't do anything outrageous, there is nothing she can do to sabotage you. I would ask my boss not to make a big deal of it. Nothing will be resolved in a meeting.

Your boss could be your ally here. Meet with your boss alone first to see what his plan of action will be. You can decide at that time. The office manager needs to be disciplined, you should consider letting your boss handle it after you meet with him. I see no need for both you and the office manager to meet with your boss - he should handle it with her alone!

You have confused the whole story between she and he. It is not understood whether she or he is your boss, whether she or he is your friend? If she is your friend, why she should be vindictive to you and take some drastic step?

I think you should have waited till the woman that supposedly said things about your past got back. And spoke with her first. Did you think since you hadn't told boss lady, but friend about past. She (friend that is) maybe the one trying to sabotage you.
