It's not just 'young people' doing it, all age groups have a problem with it. It's a societal problem not just one of the young.

I think this is a huge problem I had a problem with a prescription and it wasn't pretty and believe it or not come to find out the doctors make money off the prescriptions they give out. doctors can fire you so to speak if they want and if you become addicted to the medication they had given you oh well it truly is a nightmare for some people and more people need to get involved because it needs to stop. People need help not to be shunned and pushed to the side as if they were a piece of trash.I thank God that I found a another Doctor who stood beside me and took care of me knowing that I had a medical plus an addiction but sense the problem was fixed I haven't touched a pill.

Kids will always find a way to get high, whether it's smoking pot, stealing their parent's booze, or their meds. After all, if they see mom & dad on drugs, why not them?
What I think.. well, as an adult and parent who needs prescription painkillers on a regular basis, this trend has made it very hard for me to get them. Doctors in my area often refuse to prescribe any kind of narcotic painkiller unless they have known you for years, and since I just moved here, that's a big problem. I can't even get a family Dr. after three years - but that's another story.
Kids should be educated that percodan, for example, does a lot of damage to your liver and that it's from the same group as heroin. A lot of morphine gets used in this city, as well, and that's an easy one to overdose on. Two 15 year olds just did - what a waste!
I guess I think that people who have legitimate prescriptions for drugs should keep them well away from kids, just as they should with alcohol. Keep the drugs out of sight or locked up. And pray.

It is sad. Children have no clue what dangers they are playing with. Another problem is huffing. Kids have been doing both for years. When I was in 8th grade (I will be 30 in August) this was a huge craze among my peers. I had a close friend (I was in 8th grade he was in 6th) die from huffing butane. Children do not understand the dangers and also have that "it won't happen to me mentality". Sad thing is even if they can't buy these things they are still apt to steal them. So perhaps they should be kept behind store counters and we should be carded just like they do for cigarettes or alcohol. Children don't listen to adult warnings but if it is harder to access these substances we could save lives.

This makes me outraged...VERY VERY ANGRY..
Stupid people getting high and doing anything they can to deceive and get prescription meds makes it harder every day for people who really need them to live a some what normal life get them from doctors and insurance companies..
because of these idiots the laws are ridiculously strict and doctors have to distrust everyone and make good people who need them feel like criminals..
It made alot of doctors stop prescribing them and force people on to meds that don't work but are prescribed because they don't have risks of addiction..
I have lupus and suspected MS.. It took me years to find a doctor who is not afraid to treat my problems and pain issues with compassion and meds that actually do their job so I can do my job as as normally" as I can..

I think that our culture hurts. Because of that, people want to escape the pain. If children were raised to respect and love life, and themselves, and given the tools to live happy adult lives, they wouldn't want to abuse drugs. We've moved too far away from simplicity and love for our fellow beings.
