i thought that the begining of the movie was sad when her brother died and when the teacher showed her the DVD tape he sent in to the school that was so sad to me

Yeah, i saw it. I thought the beginning was sad and some other parts, like whenever Paul got mentioned and Terri starts to cry or become sad. I didn't like Hilary Duff's acting though.
