I lived in L.A. for twenty years - and I'd rather be in an earthquake. Most of them don't do much damage, they're over quickly enough and aftershocks are rarely bigger than the original quake. For the most part, people know what to do when the Earth starts to move, and there often aren't any fatalities or even injuries.
You might be able to get away from a hurricane because you have warning, but overall the damage is much more severe and all encompassing than an earthquake, and because you've left, you don't always know what's going on with your home.
I'd take my chances with an earthquake, thanks.

Most definately an earthquake. While you can't see them coming, the damage is usually MUCH less severe. They are over and done with fast. Even if you evacuate before a hurricane, who's to say your house will be there when you get back?!

Having been through several earthquakes, I'd have to say I'd rather be in an Earthquake. It is usually over in a few seconds, and here in California - we usually sleep through most of them.
I've never been through a Hurricane, but they are annual events, that can last for several days - while a really large earthquake (large enough to cause major damage) is a rare occurrence.

A hurricane because i have experienced many since I live in Florida and it ends in about a day. I t may cause a lot of destruction but it's gone fast. With an earthquake there is aftershocks so you still have to stay cautious

I would rather be in a hurricane. I can go to the basement. I would find an earthquake very unpredictable as to what would happen.

Hurricane. You have a few days to stock up on food, bring your pets inside and you can boil water afterwards. There's a good chance there will still be a roof standing (even if you do have to throw everything out.) With an earthquake everything is flattened.

I'm from SF. I'd rather be in neither. But if I had to be in one, a hurricane. You have more than 48 hours to prepare or evacuate. An earthquake is soo unexpected and scary. You don't know when they end.

I live in Florida, I would still rather be in a hurricane, you have days to prepare, and pretty much know the extent , or magnitude of the disaster when it hits ( Category 1, 2, 3, etc).
