The different kinds of compounds are those that contain ionic bonds and those that contain covalent bonds (which could also be either polar or nonpolar)
The kinds of mixtures are homogeneous (where each component of the mixture is evenly distributed) and heterogeneous (where the components are unevely distributed)

Kind of a large category. Every substance is a chemical or is a mixture of chemicals. Rust is iron oxide. Salt is sodium chloride. Chalk is calcium carbonate. Vinegar is dilute acetic acid.
