it may be something related to her diet. When I used to have chronic kidney stones, it was because of the composition of the stones (calcium oxylate acids). I had to undergo quite a few ESWLs (extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsies) before I decided it would be better to make some lifestyle adjustments, including moderating my intake of caffeine, alcohol, even innocuous things like blackberries, spinach, orange marmalade, etc. And I had to get into the habit of the #1 essential to good health: drink plenty of water & stay hydrated!

Drink lots of water, the other diet changes to be made depends on the type of stone. Check into Davita's website or the National Kidney Foundation. Following is from NKF....

If you have kidney stones, you may need to follow a special diet. First, your doctor will run tests to find out what type of stones you form. From these, the doctor can determine which diet changes may be right for you. A registered dietitian can help you make the necessary changes in your diet.

Poor diet. My bf got them once. The dr. told him clear liquids. If she drinks a lot of soda and she gets these kidney stones she probably won't stop drinking it. Tell her Sprite or Sierra mist or 7 up or something. She needs to be drinking LOTS of water.

Kidney stones are caused by a particular acid. (I don't know the name of it off hand.)

It is also the result of years of having dairy and meat. See if she can have more raw vegetable substances and fruit.

Also, the Alternative health arena has many suggestions for dissolving the kidney stones naturally without surgery. Do research and look into those.

good health,
Cheryl

Kidney stones are from dehydration. Have her give up sodas and tea (caffeine) and drink more water and juice. Kool-aid is OK too.

Urologists do not know why people get stones.
Drinking helps (cranberry juice) aids in flushing out
the urethra. Hope this helps. Sorry she gets them.
They are really painful. Have her talk to her GP
and maybe they can recommend a course of action.
Drinking lots of cola is a suspect in stones.
Also eating lots of dairy products.

Good luck.
