Search Engines: If a page no longer exists on the Internet, why does it still show up in searches?

Because the search engines keep a cache of information about the web page so that they can get fast results for you. Usually these caches are not up to date. I've seen pages on searches that were taken down 6 months ago.

Because as fast as pages come and go everyday on the Internet, the search engines usually run a minimum of 4-6 months behind.
