rub it over a moisturizer. if your eyes get irritated easily then after there's moisturizer on it write with it on the palm of your hand to get the moisturizer off and that will make it softer. also try melting it a little w/ a lighter, like girls in the 60s would do

You can try heating it up for now, but honestly, your eyeliner is just poor quality. And it's not the price...it's just the pencil itself. It might have been sitting on the shelf for a long time before you bought it, or the brand itself is no good.
For pencil eyeliners there's no need to go fancy with the brand or price. Try Jordana, which is excellent, Arissa, or Rimmel. They're all awsome.
In the end, your eyeliner should go on smooth, and with ease. No need to mess with lighters for a nice line!!

after you sharpen your pencil..take a lighter and melt it down a little bit, 2 seconds or less, then let it cool a few seconds and it should glide on pretty well....

Wet it or burn the tip with a lighter. You should try a liquid liner, it works best for me.

My friend told me she heats hers up with a cigarette lighter. I don't have a problem with it, but she did.
