The one area where Stalin can claim success is in updating certain industries and managing to catch up 100 yrs of technology that russia had been missing out on.
T o do this he had to instill the fear of death into the people so that his "quotas" would be met. In addition he had many psychological problems, possibly stemming from his lack of height and the fact that he was ruling a russian nation and he wasnt even russian (a la hitler, a la napoleon)
So he was paranoid, killed anything that moved and showed a bit of vision, probably murdered lenin.
Ghosts were out to get this guy.
Unfortunately bc he traumatixed the nation the next 30 years leaders spent all their efforts in avoiding anything stalin touched and this included industry.
So he may have updated russia by 100 years but then he forced us back 60 years and caused another 100 years of mental stigma. So...overall i think Stalin has negative points despite his 5 years plans.

No, it was because he had several personal talents.
First, as a "schemer" he eliminated his opponents (Trotsky, Kamenev, Zinoniev, Bukharin, et al) and Lenin's closest cohorts by individually isolating them politically and then crushing them to death. He killed (or caused their deaths, including their families) all in the path of his ambitions.
Secondly, to build the USSR into a world power, he drove the nation into a famine and a suspicious societal form, where every neighbor reported on the other.
He, himself, was ignorant of military affairs. In 1936-37 he "purged" (killed off) 80% of the nations senior military commanders.
Just prior to Hitler's attack, (June, 1941) he disregarded all military and political intelligence, and left his nation extremely unprepared.
His "triumph" was how he cowed the whole nation to sacrifice their families and themselves to do his bidding. Your "a sea of capitalism" Aside from a brief period under Lenin, Russia/USSR never had native capitalists; they were English, French,American.
My judgement:: second to Mao Zedung, he was the most wicked (evil) and powerful person in the past 400 years

With all the killing Stalin did to his fellow countrymen, do you think they triumph. There wasn't freedom to disagree. Did Russia create more wealth for the masses. If it did why does one always hear about shortages & lines?

No, the jews established communism with the Bolshevik revolution due to the fact that capitalism had not taken root and prevailed as of yet. The jews inventented both capitalism and communism.

No it was the way he systematical killed 20 million of his countrymen through oppression and starvation. A good case in how not to run a country.

I think it was more because of fear he implanted and the iron grip he built over his nation. When a people are desperate, they are easily swayed by lies, promises, and nationalism.
