You assume that the man does not have to cooperate with a whole variety of outside influences. John Wayne is dead. You will have to get all good political leaders to support him.

I would like to think so, but because of the way the Elections are held, all of the primaries are not held at the same time, and if you look at the previous presidents of the US, you will see that they all belonged to some sort of high ranking private organization. I consider myself honest and would love to run for the President of the US I would only run as an Independent because I think that there is to much money given to the two main parties Democrat or Republican, do you think I would get past the filing?
I know I could make a big difference in a very short time but who is going to give a lay person someone that is not involved in the US HOUSE or SENATE or STATE GOVERNMENTS a chance or the time of day?

That would be nice, but the country isn't run solely by the president. This isn't a dictatorship, so if a man like that ever got into office, he'd just sit and twiddle his thumbs for 4 years because he wouldn't have any power to do anything decent and honest.

yes but it would be very hard for an honest man to run against a dishonest person because of the society we live in. The question could be restated can America elect an honest person to office?
Politics makes this almost impossible.

No. Politics is too corrupt. One can start out honest but in order to advance, you get corrupted one way or another.
Special interest groups fund many candidates. How will an honest politician run a campaign if his opponent has unlimited funding. People will never hear about him.

Probably not. People like to be lied to, they do not want to hear that you have to pay taxes to get roads or vaccines or colleges or laboratories or health care and they don't like to listen to arguments about it. They like symbols more than reality because the human mind is more influenced by emotions than thinking. A guy named Machiavelli wrote "The Prince" centuries ago, it is worth reading, it explains how a successful leader achieves success by evil means by playing to his public's worst instincts, just like Republicans do today.

I think every candidate starts off with these intentions.
it's what happens in the duration of his term that sway them.
cabinet members, senators, governors, the war department.
Think about all the people that are breathing down the president's throat.
John Kennedy wouldn't buckle for the war department and, look what happened to him...
