I think that Wal-Mart is a monopoly. I also think that if you look at the things that you buy from Wal-Mart most of the stuff came from other countries. Not that is bad, but you know that a lot of stuff that comes from other countries uses cheap labor. So, something that costs a few dollars to make, in turn you buy for a lot more than it cost Wal-Mart to make it. So, Wal-Mart is able to make a giant profit, which that money does not go to employees because they don't make that much. And, they don't have very good benefits. But, people keep shopping there so I would have to say that Wal-Mart is making a huge profit with very little money going back into the U.S. economy. But, that is just my views.

Yes and no. One of the problems is where the low-cost merchandise comes from -- not that I don't appreciate shopping there. Did you know that the last toy factory in the USA has closed and moved to Germany? Lego. We don't manufacture toys here anymore. How do you think that effects the US economy?

Most of the clothing sold in these cut prices stores is made overseas from Guatemala to US Territories (so there's no import taxes), to Lebanon in sweat shops. Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans are built in Lebanon by Chinese workers who are little better than slaves. Poor people in these 3rd world countries indenture themselves -- in other words, pay companies -- to go to these foreign countries far away from home/families to try to make some money to better their lives/families. Once the company has them, they cheat them out of everything, threaten them if they speak up, and keep them living and working in substandard conditions. These are the jobs that were outsourced by all the companies that didn't want to deal with labor unions and paying people a living wage with benefits.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Yes, Wal-Mart has had a detrimental effect on the US economy.

They were well on their way. But, now that they have openly shown how little they care about their "associates" and that all they truly care about is profit margins over people, I believe they have actually created a climate in which people are ready to embrace independently owned, hometown stores with real customer service that put money back into their own communities instead of sending it all to Bentonville, Arkansas so Wal-Mart can grow even more monstrous.

No, Walmart is not DESTROYING the US or global economy. What they have been successful in doing is changing the way in which businesses sell goods and the ways in which consumers byus good.

Changing is not the same as destroying. When the allies fire-bombed german factories in WW2, now that was destroying economies.

Yes! I really feel bad for the people working for them. They don't realize that they are being under payed and left without enough benefits and a decent life to support their family and give good education for the children. Walmart is one the largest employer and where does it leave the U.S economy, to the dogs of course!?

Wal-Mart is facilitating the destruction of the economy, but we are more than happy to let it happen in order to pay rock bottom prices.

properly, Walmart does enable consumers to purchase products and amenities at low prices and this would teach an advance in genuine GDP because it will advance the intake in C+I+G+(X-M). notwithstanding, Walmart has such great market potential that it may properly be positioned next to small organizations and wipe them out in view that walmart can deal with the commercial losses because of its great quantities of capital. this can be stated to shrink funding in view that now a lot less human beings may be keen to commence a company in a community the position a walmart is a demanding competitor.

It destroys small business' chance of ever making a profit, it destroys the land it's built on, and it gives only to the corporation heads... but Jesus! An elephant for only $3.99! Two for five!
