players because of its close ties to its former colonies. But Germany? I don't get the linkage.Ghana is a former British colony(July 1 is our Republic day.On that day in 1960 the Queen no longer was the Head of State of Ghana).Back to football, the two german players I'm referring to are David Odonkor and Gerald Asamoah.

They are both German citizens. Odonkor mother is from Germany, so Odonkor has the right to choose his nationality. Asamoah is a excellent player and he choose to become German, and have the opportunity to play in the Bundesliga and the German Team.

germany has a lot of ethnic diversity. a lot of foreign soccer players try to make it in the german soccer league (bundesliga) because it's a great career chance. and since some of them are really good players, they get german citizenship and can play for the country. as far as I know they can still prefer to play for their homecountry, but as for asamoah, he decided to play for germany.

Because those countries dont have enough resources.I mean they dont have enough players to cover their own team, so that those countries pay foreing players to become citizens.
