ok. kate (my best friend) is mad at me becuz robert (my ex) told her a bunch of crap about me that isnt true and she believed him. now she wont talk to me.

Well something like that happened to me too. I just reminded my friend that we were best friends and that she could believe me.

If she has elected to believe him then there is little that you can do to convince her otherwise. Obviously there maybe some grains of truth wrapped into some of the things he has said and perhaps your friend had unresolved issues with you that she has not approached you about so its fuelling everything.
She is grown you cannot convince her, simply let her know when she is ready to hear and listen to the truth you are there to tell it and just let it go. I know its not easy but its the only way, sometimes you need to step away from the situation because the more you attempt to convince her the more she will fight you.

try talking to her... if she wont listen then once she will know the truth she will regret not believing you

write her a note and tell her what you think and feel and then go from there
