nope.

video card memory is completely independent from system memory. it all depends on how much you want to spend. keep in mind that the memory on the video card does not matter when calculating total performance. it is all inside the processing core of the card.

and yes, there are 1gb video cards if u want to pay $600 for em (the nvidia 7950)

No, the memory does not need to be the same. But the more memory you get on the video card, the faster your computer may be able to process and display images on your monitor. If you want to play serious games, you may want a video card with a lot of memory. But if you just want to type and use spreadsheets, you don't need to spend the extra money for extra video memory.

no the memory does not have to be the same as what you have in your pc. anyway, i think the highest memory on vid card is 512mb. so it would not be possible if you had 1 gig memory to have a 1 gig vid card.

a good video for around 200 is the radeon x800xl, thats what i have. it has 256mb memory. when you get into the 512mb, the prices climb up. check out tomshardware.com they have good information.

No, the memory does not have to be the same type. Most video cards don't use the same type of memory as the computer does anyway.

No it doesn't, they are just independent from each other, the specs that you have to check before you buy the video card are:
-Kind of slot (PCI Express, AGP, etc.)
-Amount of memory (128, 256, etc.)
-Compatibility with the apps that you have planned to use it
-Price

No, but it's better if you buy a card with higher memory.
Now, a 1024 mb video card? that's a must-see
