Well all I have to say is I cannot understand why one of the most talented players in the game, Messi, whether he be a teenager/youngster or not took no part in such a crucial game. Unbelievable.

Coz Pekerman thought about it... until Klose came
"Unfortunately we couldn't deliver for reasons that are part of football. These things can happen, we had two forced changes," Pekerman said of two substitutions he made in quick succession with less than 20 minutes to go and his team ahead.
Goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri had to come off with a rib injury and was replaced by his deputy Leo Franco, but Pekerman also brought off playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme and sent on defensive midfielder Esteban Cambiasso.
"Riquelme looked a bit tired," Pekerman said.
Asked why he had opted minutes later to replace Hernan Crespo with Julio Cruz instead of sending on teenage ball wizard Lionel Messi, Pekerman said: "We always had that option in mind...but it wasn't the right moment."
However, one minute after Cruz came on, striker Miroslav Klose headed the equaliser in the 80th minute.

I believe it was a miscalculation on the part of the Argentinian coach. In the middle of the second half, Germany looked like they were wasted, unable to finish a play, like they were giving up. The Argentinians thought the game was over, but as soon as they made that miscalculation, Germany rallied and to the Argentinians' surprise the Germans were able to even up the score. Tactically, the Germans were superior, although the Argentinians were obviously technically better that the Germans.

Argentina should not have made the substitutions they made. They should have continued the same attacking strategy instead of choosing to play defensive.Once those changes were made it made germany's job quite easy. The coach should have remembered that you don't change a strategy which is working well.

no spot left: pekerman subbed on cambiasso and cruz, and later franco for abbondanzieri b/c he was injured. that's three. and i still can't get over the fact that klose got away with knee-knocking him. should have been yellow-carded.
