One of the best bug cleaners is a bath towel, wetted down with warm water and draped over the windshield. This softens up the bugs so they can be gently removed with the towel and not scratch your shield.
Using Pledge or Plexus to polish it up makes it all the easier, next time out..

I use Coca-Cola and a soft cloth. I swear to you, it works. Then you just wash with soap and water. Be careful waxing the windshield, some waxes have polishing agents built into them and can scratch the winshield.

I like S100 for cleaning my bike and windscreen. You just spray it on and spray it off. The really stuck-on crud will come off with a little rubbing with a soft sponge or towel.
