You can get your gear cleaned -- there's services that do that. Ask at your local pro shop.

But really, as far as gear goes, prevention's worth a pound of cure in this case. *Always* take your gear, all your gear, out of your bag. Spread it out to dry. Every time.

I've been religious about making sure my gear makes it out of the bag to dry after every game, and it doesn't smell at all.

I'm not sure I'd put vinegar on your gloves if the palm is leather. Vinegar's about a ph3, which is reasonably acidic, and your gloves are constantly under assault from the acid your skin generates... I'd think that would only eat through them quicker.

I'd try putting your gloves out in the sunshine a few times, palm down so the leather doesn't dry out too much.

But in the end -- ask anyone who does it -- drying your gear completely each time is really the best way to keep it from getting stinky.

My gloves smell really bad also. I tried many things that didn't work until I tried using this solution of vinegar and water. Dilute white vinegar with water. Dip a corner of the paper towel into it and wipe it along the inside of the glove.

You will have the smell of vinegar for a little while so let it air out if you don't like the smell. If the smell did not go away, then you diluted the vinegar a bit too much.

Take your stuff to a do-it-yourself car wash where you can hang up the stuff from the floor mat holders on the walls. Put them out in the sun to dry. After that, make sure you always take your stuff out of your bag to dry after playing. I never have a problem with my stuff stinking - sometimes my gloves stink a little, but usually are fine after they dry.

Above all, DO NOT use Febreeze - OMG, that stuff smells horrible after it's been sprayed on hockey gear and it doesn't mask the oder OR make it go away, it just makes the stench worse.

I got this from the equipment manager of the Gwinett Gladiators (ECHL) Lysol, Lysol,Lysol. They buy it by the 5 gallon containers and she uses it on everything.

This one is from Mrs Steve Carlson, after the equipment has been cleaned and dried she puts those pine auto air fresheners in the gloves. "because after a while it still stinks".

You have to be careful with your equipment. I've worked with young hockey players and one of the worst infections I've ever treated was in a 16 y/o that started with a cut under an elbow pad. Keep that stuff clean!

You don't, i've been tryin for years and there is no hope. All you can do is put up with the stench as long as you can then pass them down to a sibling and let them deal with it or are you the younger sibling?

Send it out to specialist cleaners who clean stuff like firefighters gear and racing firesuits.
