While I think it is an excellent idea for 14 year olds (and younger) to take on responsibilities, I think any job should be for very limited hours/weekends.

Your first priority should be school and getting an education.Social activities, church, enjoying your last years as a kid should come next. If you can get a job and keep those priorities than go for it.

When I was 14 I worked in my township's after school program. It wasn't really a "real" job but it was enough to keep me occupied. No 14 year old is going to get hired at anything besides a mom & pop place. Since it's the summer time, then go for it!

When I was 14 I had a summer job at my dad's factory. It taught me about having to show up on time and put in a full days work and about working and saving money for the things I wanted to buy.

However, it's not always the best thing for everyone because sometimes a person ends up missing out on an important time in their life where they could be enjoying doing things with their friends instead of jumping ahead to that time in their life when they won't have a choice about having to work or not.

Some should but not every 14 yr. old. Some are not mature enough to handle a job.

Only during summer. I have seen ppl who start work early in their lives not get very far. This might be because sometimes teens think that they now have purchasing power and don't have to depend on their parents anymore. But even this small amount of money is not enough compared to getting a quality education, which provides higher income later on in life which you spend wisely instead of squandering it away.

But at 17 teens should start working and start saving for college and understand what hard work is like. This prepares them for hard work in college. Also, at this age they are less likely to squander money away and rather invest it wisely in their education.

Sure, but nothing too time consuming. Nothing that's going to affect them doing their homework, etc.

I used to file papers at insurance office for 2 hrs/5 day a week after school when I was 14.

based on the type of work, yes i think they should, help teach responsibility, and understanding of money, the job doesn't have to be with a fast food place or department store, something like cutting lawns, or running earns for there neighbors

it depends how mture the child is. some children are responsable and capable to doing a job but... others are still very imature and would do more harm then good when they work.
