I personally see nothing wrong with teaching a child to memorize things or have photographic memory. I believe that in the long run it will help them be responsible and smart, and it could help a lot in adchieving goals or good jobs. I just wanted to hear what you have to say about this subject.

I'll just clearify...there are special schools to teach children of various ages to help memory improve. They teach the kids to remember full scenes with detail and to remember objects or events in sequential order and be able to say everything they remember in detail. Some people think it is wrong to do so.

As an elementary school teacher, I'm all for it. Some students have a hard time learning concepts without first memorizing facts. This doesn't mean they're dumb. It just means they learn differently. I had a student in my class this past year who struggled with EVERYTHING. When I assigned lines for students to learn for a video we made, this student was the ONLY one to actually memorize all of his lines. His spelling tests improved once he started to memorize the words. He was also one of the first students to memorize all of his multiplication facts, which helped him learn how to do division.
This student was able to be SUCCESSFUL at things other students struggled with. It gave him more confidence in his own ability, which helped him to try harder in areas where he was weaker.
Besides, our parents and their parents and their parents before them all had to just memorize junk. They're far more practical than we are as a whole because of it.

Absolutely - I agree. My fiance just had a summer workshop that he just got back from and they were talking about how important it is to memorize certain things, so true learning can take process. Without memorization of certain facts, there is a boundary the child cannot cross, where, on the other side, they could take that information and use it for critical thinking and scaffolding. I think its excellent and so do literary and education experts alike. Good luck!

I think it's stupid for kids to remember anything. That takes all the adventure out of their life. If you could go your whole life discovering each mundane thing over and over again like it's your first time, you would have a much more interesting life. I think it's best to try to avoid teaching your kids ANYTHING but the WORST thing to teach kids, is memory.

I had problems remembering things in grade school so I saw a language expert. She taught me to grab a bunch of miscellaneous items(beads, necklaces, coins, whatever), put them in a box and she would pick out ten things or 5 things and then put them back in and I would have to take those items out again. I think it's a good memory exercise. I think memory is something that will develop over time that children will learn throughout their schooling. Like homework assignments, math skills, history dates. that sort of thing.

u keep at about 20 things in table and give them 1 min to see all the things then take them to another room and give them a piece of papper and ask them to write evrything (as much as they remember) in the papper ...it will be fun for..slowly reduce the timing and increase the items in table....this wil giev them a nice memory exercise...u can keep things like pen, pencil, eraser, bedsheet, book, pencil box, flower, salt,a bottle, doll, powder,fruits..and so on..... if the kids r small this will even teach them spellings and names of some items as they regularly play this game
