It is quite sad, considering there is even a spell check on here.

Ah, Roxannewrites you caught me!
I noticed my grammar was wrong but I never changed it. I suppose that sometimes its the same way with spelling.

People shouldn't even need to use the spell check. It's pretty sad. However, there are many illiterate people out there who just don't care about grammar or spelling (or their limited ability to communicate) enough to be decent people and give the more literate folks a break once in a while...I'm seventeen and I type more efficiently than most of the adults I talk to via the internet. I'm not bragging or anything. I'm just stating plain facts.

I never knew there was a spell check here, and i can't find where it is - but i'm sure EVERYONE notices the bad spelling on yahoo! answers. I don't know, but perhaps the standard of english has dropped considerably around the world. Perhaps it starts of with a) less english being spoken at home b) standard of eng in schools are not as high as they used to be..

Yes...and sometimes I wonder if they just don't know our language well enough, or of they're using shortcuts (net-speak like the lady above says) OR...if they are just too darn lazy to hit the "check spelling" link above the box they're typing answers in!

Whichever it is....it's frustrating, and I won't answer a question that I can't basically understand.

The Spelling spells more about the person than the spelt object . One needs to be very careful about one's spelling of words as bad-spelling may change the very intended meaning of the word.

For Eg. the words, 'wear. ware, & where', 'wore & whore'. & 'bear' & bare'. 'for & far', 'write & rite, Right'

Sometimes, the bad spelling goes to make howlers!

One has to be careful as it shows one's educational background too.

People dont care, they figure if they can read it, so can everybody else. And I'd say half of the people on here are teeny boppers, or punky kids who think the are tough

Yes, but people get defensive when it's mentioned. I just skip over things I can't begin to decipher.

Not to be a beeatch, but the question would be "Has anyone else noticed how badly people are spelling?" :)

It's called netspeak and it sucks. It gives me a headache. I tried to type to my friend on messenger in nothing but netspeak and it took me forever to type replies to her. Why bother?
