No idea of the cost to get there but it definitely can be affordable. You can travel by TGV train, it takes 2 hours from Paris (gare Montparnasse) and this is without a doubt easier and cheaper than flying there.

Nantes is certainly a fine city, the former capital of Britany (Bretagne). Nantes is on the river Loire. The countryside around the city is very nice and full of historical landmarks (often linked to the French revolution), it is also nearby the Anjou area which is known for its quality of life qualified as "sweet". It is also convenient as it is quite close to the sea coast.

Nantes is definitely a fine place to go and being less touristic then many other destinations (Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy or the South of France, that are expensive and crowded in summer) it should surely be less expensive.

Have a good holiday and a safe trip...

Nantes is a city, easily accessble from Paris by the TGV. However, it is best looked on as a gateway to other more picturesque areas to visit:
to the North, Brittany
to the East, the Loire Valley and its chateaux
to the South, Vendee, its history, and beaches.
