Is it possible for conservatives to make an argument without quoting the Bible, or for liberals to counter that argument without denouncing the Bible? And can either side make an argument without vilifying the other? I'm sure there are a lot of intelligent people out there who can support their beliefs without taking shots at the opposition, so why do we always resort to the blame game?

I would like to add that this question was not meant to offend anyone. Obviously, not all conservatives are evangelists and not all liberals are atheists.

Yeah, I am one of the few liberals who dont put other people down. This is what I have to say to all the liberals who do: Most liberals believe what they do because they believe in human rights. By putting down anyone who doesnt believe what you do, are you really standing up for human rights, or liberal rights? And to conservatives, most of you are the way you are because of a strong moral foundation. Do you really think of yourself as a moral being when you talk about how terrible liberals are for what they believe? By doing this you are NO better than them. If you want to have great moral charcater, raise up above them and show them that you have an argument that can be proven, and dont just bash everyone.

The thing about political views is that there are two equally good sides to EVERYTHING. Period. The only reason why people believe the way they do is because they think that one side is more imporant than the other. For example, take abortion. The right side believes that it is terrible because no matter when you believe life starts, you are getting rid of a potential life. Not even a liberal can argue that side. The left side however believes that if it is a life or not, a grown woman's rights is so important that an unborn child is a small price to pay. Both sides are right and just, but what you believe is what you think is more important. Any issue can be taken appart to the right and left side like that, and anyone who refuses to do that and just believe something for no reason doesnt have a mind and just follows whatever liberal/conservative bullshit they are fed.

Dear god, why cant we just get along? Why is it that we can NOT respect others if they arent like us?

I like your question a lot. I am a conservative with some liberal friends and we get along pretty well even though we have our share of disagreements. Yeah I know it gets real rough and each side is always arguing about one issue or another. People do not seem to know how to carry on a conversation without trying to interup or shout over another persons comments. I wish that politicians would do more working together so we could solve more problems. The Bush administration has been villified by Hollywood and intellectual elites right after 9-11 and there needs to be an end to all this hatred of the President. That would be a good start because I am patriotic and an American and not an activist or a crusader to push my beliefs down others throats.

Very smart question. I am a liberal and Agnostic (not a Christian) and I just don't believe in bringing religion into politics. Religion is complicated enough without politics. I don't understand WHY conservatives always have to bring up Christianity and the Bible when talking about the politics.

I don't insult Christianity when talking about politics, I simply leave it out unless we are discussing church/state issues. We are a nation of mixed races and religions, Christianity has no reason to be intermingled with politics, especially since not everyone in America believes in it.

I only get frustrated with those that feel they must bring it up. Occasionally I've gotten furious when someone will not drop the Christianity agenda but, again, only because it should NOT have anything to do with politics in general!

I don't want to play the blame game. I only want to solve things and prevent further killing. Most Democrats say the same thing. But we keep getting bashed by the Bush fans and Republicans. You don't know how many times I've been called un-American, "leave the country", godless, idiot, etc. when I know very well that it's far from the truth. It doesn't exactly make me a big fan of the Right.

I see where you're coming from. I try not to align myself with liberals or conservatives. I'd much rather do my own thinking. However, on the Bible issue I'd have to back the libs. I've only seen liberals denounce the Bible when it's thrust in their face by zealot right wingers. Can you blame them (the libs)?

When someone approaches you with the accusation that you're a rotten person and you're destined for an imaginary land known as "hell" because you don't hold their same beliefs, it's kind of hard not to throw it right back in their face. I'd call it spiritual self defense.

No one should be expected to put up with the kind of bigotry and blind hatred that hell-fire Christians direct at the rest of the world.

Keep in mind, I'm not talking about the good Christian folk and I know plenty of them. But the venomous hell-fire brand of Christians are truly a wretched bunch. I'd no more defend them than I'd defend the KKK or The American Nazi Party. They're all peas in the same pod.

Not everybody does that. I'm a decidedly right winged person, and I can't quote the Bible at all. I also have liberal friends on this site, and I engage in some good natured sparring with them from time to time. Sometimes I can't resist the ones that insist on using caps and referring to conservatives as neo-cons. I do go after them to a point, but only as sport! As long as people try to keep it respectable, I'll do the same. Some are just so damn silly, stupid, and disrespectful that I just can't help myself!

Either way, you will have followers who are very left or very right. If you when over all the extremes(unfortunately, you have to play the blame game to do this), you get the majority of the votes. Yes we are intelligent enough to support our beliefs without the blame, but you can't get America to support your beliefs through a fair game.

I just wanted to thank you for saying this. How are we supposed to make the world a better place with people sniping at each other here and everywhere just because they have different beliefs? Those of us who are not so extreme are not quick to lash out, so you don't hear from us as often. But my hope is that we're quietly working in the background together instead of wasting so much precious time and energy calling people names.

Please stop confusing conservatives with the Religious Right. There are millions of conservatives who don't go to church and don't own a bible.

Conservatives believe people should be free of government control, and in creating a powerful and varied economy so the poor will have the resources to help themselves rather than receive handouts. Handouts are temporary, stop-gap measures that do not improve anyone's standard of living in any meaningful or permanent way.

Okay let's see:

- not possible

- not possible

- no they can't

- I think you overestimate the intelligence of many people and the blame game is what the politics game is all about. Hence why America is doomed (the absolute reliance on a 2 party system more concerned with destroying itself than working for the people).

Enjoy!!!

THE US Congress:

Has anyone noticed- the team of lawmakers have never learned the art of Teamwork. To me this is very strange. They are the complete opposite of a team. Can you imagine a football team operation like the US congress? 10 games 0-10
Why do we keep sending those old farts back year after year? Byrd is so old he can hardly speak or walk. Why don't we put new blood in all their seats. America is better than this. Congress is holding us BACK>
