A few people have told me this, and it has really cheesed me off. It sounds really boring to me, as I spend most of my time doing creative pursuits which everyone discourages me from doing, but feels good to me to do with my time.

Is it because it's easier to get a job doing that than other careers ? If so, then won't a ton of other people also do it, making it harder to get a job.... so the people with the natural inclination to do it will excel more, thus getting the previously mentioned easy to get jobs, leaving the ones who don't enjoy business as much, back in the unemployment line?

You should do whatever you most like to be successful. A degree does not guarantee success like some would like you to believe. It guarantees you finished school. I encourage anyone with creative pursuits to go for it. There is not enough creativity in the world. I pay for my son to do his music, pursue his creative career, and for his studio time. Even if he's not successful - how many people get to say - hey I tried !!!!! He works and does his music, don't let anyone get you down.

I obviously don't know your specific situation or what you mean by "creative" pursuits that you do, but people could be telling you to study business because it's more of a generalized field of study where much of what you learn can be applied to other fields. So for example, if you are a artist who makes ceramics....can you really make a living w/o business? Think about it - are there enough local people who know about you that will buy enough ceramics to make a living? More than likely, you will instead need to market (advertise) your talent, budget your money if you open a gallery (finance) , find other businesses to showcase your art (sales), etc..... Basically what I am trying to say is that studying business is a general degree in which you could apply to a great many industries.

Life requires money which requires commerce which requires buyers and sellers which require products and services which require money. Get it! Everthing is business. Business is the least understood and least taught subject outside of the college of business. Learn something about the country you live in and stop thinking about the unemployment line. There are more markets out there then just the labor market!

You don't need a business degree to own or start a business. You don't need it to work for someone either. Many times they like to train you to do things their way. Take it from me, it is very boring. Follow your heart and just go for it.

personally i wouldn't waste your time with a degree as they take too long and aren't much use at the end and in truth a lot of people do business degrees because they can't think of anything else.

my advice would be to choose the area you want then look to get professional or industry qualifications in that area
