The piercing studio told me that I couldn't use a retainer all the time...just to take the piercing out and that it would never grow up. Just to come back to him whenever I wanted it put backin and he could stretch the hole back open with minimal pain. Is this true? I don't know what to do.

The piercer said that it isn't good to keep putting the piercing in and out, as it hurts really bad...I've had the piercing since March.

If I put a "Stealth" appliance or retainer in while at work, and then put my real piercing back in when I get off, then my piercing said this would cause too much irritation/pain. Is this true? I know others do it, but maybe it is different for the lip.

While it is healing the first 4-6 weeks taking it out is not an option even to change the jewelry. After that you can safely wear a retainer and chage it at the end of the day...if it starts to get sore or irritated then find a new job where they don't judge you based on your appearance but rather you abillity to do the job correctly.

Ask if you can have a plastic one at work so that the fresh piercing doesn't close up. If your boss won't let you have them, then on your breaks, put the piercing back in for a while, rotate the ring/bar/etc. and then take it back out again before you get back to work. Ask your boss if this is allowable, otherwise let him/her know that you will/will not comply with his/her wishes for obvious reasons.
I'm sorry but I wouldn't want to have the piercing stretched back open after it closing up even a little bit....uugh!

yes, minimal pain if you don't mind the healing process starting over again ( 2-3 weeks) get a clear retainer for it, if you need to remove it for work, take it out, you'll be able to get it back in after 8 hours... the hole will shrink after 12 hours - a little, but the longer it's left out, the smaller the hole will get- and i bet he's gonna charge you to stretch it again

Maybe you try a "stealth" appliance. These are usually made of surgical grade Teflon, flat, and colored to blend in with your skin, beard, tongue, or whatever. It looks like a small wart or mole unless you look really really close. The downside to them is that the threads wear out pretty quickly. For instance, if I switch from my stealth tongue ring to the nifty steel one every weekend, I wear the Teflon out in a couple months, and it isn't cheap to replace.

i worked at a fast food place when i was younger...we all just put bandaids over our piercings while at work. then you dont have to worry about it closing up? as for a piercing never closing-- dont buy it -- i took my lebret piercing out for 30 mins and that sucker hurt to bad to put it back in

put fishing line in the hole while you are at work. It's thick, slides right through and it's clear so you can't really see it. It'll help your hole from closing up.
good luck! lip piercings are hottt!!

not sure how long you've had the piercing, but the lip will most likely grow back together. My tongue keeps doing it.
