We all fight for different things. The majority of fights are power struggles. In ancient times, they typically took place between men for access to limited resources necessary for survival. Because fighting led to increased survival, men have evolved to derive pleasure from fighting. Now men enjoy fighting over perceived power and resources, even when it is not necessarily for survival. With the invention of weapons capable of mass destruction (nuclear, biological, soon nanotechnological), this will be the end of humankind. I predict most likely within the next 50 years.

Basically we fight for freedom and liberty. Humanity has been evolving in such a direction, total freedom from physical and mental limitations. What we want is spiritual liberation, the ultimate freedom.

For me, there are only 3 things worth fighting for: God, family, and freedom. I will elaborate. If my country were overrun by people who denied me the opportunity to worship in my own fashion, and required me to make a declaration of belief outside my faith under penalty of death, then I would fight until my last breath. If my family is threatened with harm or death, then I would fight or die trying to save them. If I am placed in a position were my basic freedoms are denied me, or I am in threat of being subjugated and forced to submit solely because I am deemed unfit, undesirable, or dissimilar to a chosen few, then I would fight with every ounce of my being, hold my head high and say NO!
