My baby will scream so bad when the vacuum is on. I feel so bad for her, but of course I have to vacuum! It can take a loong time to calm her down. Just wondering, did this ever happen to you and will they grow out of it?

my son used to be the same way...then we started giving it to him to play with when it was off...then we would let him turn it on and off and he finally got used to it.

Some children are very sensitive to loud noises. Try carrying her when you vacuum in a snuggly or back pack so she can feel the security of your closeness and talk to her about what you are planning to do before you turn it on. Even if she is too young to understand, the sound of your voice will help sooth her..

I was also afraid of the vacuum until I was an adolescent (especially when something got sucked up it that shouldn't have and it made an awful noise). Some people it takes longer for them to get over the noise.

If all else fails, try putting her in another room, in a playpen or someplace safe and a little quietr while you vacuum.

My 11 mo. old used to freak at the vacuum. I would get it out, show her all of the attachments, and just have her touch it. That seemed to calm her down. Or, start it up in another room so your baby can "warm up" to the sound.

If that doesn't work, do you have someone else in your house (husband, boyfriend) that can vacuum while you go out with the baby?

My daughter just turned 5 and is getting better about the vacuum. She would actually tremble and shake and lock herself in her room when I vacuumed. It was awful. But what I had to do was buy a little cheap floor vac where the handle moves up and down and let her do it herself, then she was OK with it. Not great but OK.

Awww, poor little thing. Yes, the vacuum really freaked out my little girl when she was a baby. It just is a strange and loud noise to them. She got over it though! Now she "helps" me vacuum all the time!

My daughter is 3 and she still hates hearing the vacuum cleaner. I just smile and make into a game. Hide and Seek . When she hears the vacuum she hides and after I am done I go and find her . Its really fun !

Both of my boys loved the vacuums as infants...sometimes it was the only thing that calmed them down. When my older son turned about 18 months, he was terrified of it. He reminded me of a cat. :) He's 27 months now, and "helps" me vacuum. My younger son will be one on Sunday, and he's still fascinated with it. I have to put him in his crib when I vacuum or else he'll chase me around and unplug it. I imagine he'll eventually be afraid of it too, if he follows in his brother's footsteps.

My daughter was the same way until she was about 6 or 7--- she still doesn't like the sound of it but they do out grow it---now its lawnmowers- the bigger the worse it is...LOL

It justs takes time- just talk to her when your vacuuming-ok maybe having to raise your voice- try distracting her put on some music and dance while you do it

I put my baby in another room at first. Then as she got older i would hold her as i vacuumed and as time went by she got use to it. Now every time I vacuum she wants to help.

yeah my 1 and 2 year old are afraid of the vacuum. They don't cry when its on but they sit on the top of the couch and they won't get down until I turn it off.

It scares both of my sons I have tried all types of things when we run the vacuum but nothing has worked yet so I usually just run it why they are napping until they grow out of it.
