He didnt let the argies diving fool him and he did penalise most of their cheatin. I feel he did a really good job, he missed a couple of elbows ot the face and shoiuod hgave sent off the toss pot who grabbed the german round the throat/face but in general he caught most of it.

I agree, the ref let the game flow and did not let the bloody cheating scum argies fool him. I love to see sh.ite like them being sent off or even loseing, even if they are the better team, it is never fair when one team plays thier hearts out only for cheats to win by a penalty. I just hope it is the same for the ities who are just as good at it when they play the next game. better still let the ref give a red card each time it happens, it would soon stop.

i really cant beleive so many people think this was a well reffed game. Maybe i was watching a different game but micheal ballaks clear handball in the area would have been the winning goal had they called it. That isnt even the beginning of it tho. We now have people from other countries calling the Argentine team dirty because we had about twice as many fouls as germany. These people are ignorant tho because of the 14 times argentina was in the german half on offense while the score was 1-0, 12 of these times Argentina was called for a phantom foul that didnt exist which caused their counter attack to come to a hault and gave the ball back to germany.
Another thing that angers me is that people are calling argentina crybaby fakers and dirty players. Obviously you were watching a different game. You see soccer is this sport where u kick the ball. You were probably watching a baseball game. Germany were by far the biggest actors and dirtiest players in todays game. The first half their longballs were completely shut down by the argentine defence, but in the second half, the germans started diving every time they lost the ball. Go watch the game again and u will notice the insane amount of times the germans did it. Whereas almost everytime the argentines hit the floor it was a legitimate foul. By the way the goal Germany scored was during one of these recovered lost balls due to dives. Also when u go and watch the game again, count how many times riquelme and tevez were kicked by the germans with no foul given. Just so you people know you don't need to fall for it to be a foul. This seems to be a common mistake from people who know nothing about football so im making it clear to you naysayers. Then you ask why argentina sometimes embelishes a foul? Germany played some of the dirtiest soccer i have ever seen today, and apperently you people who are saying germany is clean and argentina are dirty havent seen enough football in your lifetimes to know what to look for. The play where Tevez ended up with a bloody nose comes to mind. He gets kicked by 3 different players from behind before he finally falls and then gets kneed in the face by the fourth german player to hit him (no foul was called).

I agree that Germany played the worst match in this World Cup so far. I'm a big German supporter, but was so disappointed with their performance. The Argentinians played much better football and left Germany running after their own ball the whole first half. There were some really bad decisions by the ref and if I have to say so myself, most of them favored Germany. Ballack was also brought/pulled down in the penalty area with no penalty given, so it wasn't entirely one-sided. It's also not like Germany equalised unfairly; that was a brilliant header by Klose, so they deserved the point. Unfortunately for Argentina, the Germans are just unbeatable in penalty shootouts. I hope they play better and cleaner football against Italy.

I don't think either team won any dirty or clean playing award - don't even think such an award was an option. The ref did a great job. As you said, he wasn't fooled by the theatrics by either side and called the calls based on the way he saw them. "Saw" being the operative word. Yes he missed a few things but lets face it, he didn't let the game get out of control. Had he, I think the frustration that erupted at the end of the game would have erupted during play. Personally I really hate it when the game just starts to develop a rhythm and it gets all thrown out of wack because of a ref who calls every little nitpicking thing.

You must have been watching the wrong Germany/Argentina game, because the ref I saw was completely in favor of the home team. Sure, he made some good calls and he wasn't the worst of the refs this year, but he missed some crucial stuff that could have changed the outcome of the game completely. You only like him because he was completely against Argentina; it's obvious by your word choice, and if you're so biased yourself how can you be a judge of impartiality?

Oh, one more thing: is it "diving" if the other guy deliberately trips you? Only if Argentina does it, right?

you are only asking this question because you (a) don't like the argies winning at football because of the Maradona "hand of god" incident which put us out of the world cup a few years ago (b) we had a brief war with them in the '80s (c) you don't like cheating bastards playing football... actually mr Klinsman was himself guilty of the most appalling diving incident ever which included him rolling over three times before coming to a halt so it's not just the argies that do but the bloody germans too... it's a shame the ref can't send off the whole team isn't it. what about the scenes onthe field afterwards I don't know what it was abot but well bloody argies lost and didn't like it, typical..

mind you I bet we get that bloody balded headed italian ref like we always do

He was sort of OK but any dubious decisions went the Germans way. The foul by Klose on the Argie keeper that led to his substitution which went unpunished was unbelievable. If you watch it in slomo you will see he went in with his knees high and in my opinion was only interested in doing damage. Other than that he disguised his hand very well so he could not be accused of being a homer and I feel he awaits us in the semi or final. It was a great match but the Argie coach cost them the game with his subs not the referee.

I agree with HRODULF and BATIGOOOOAL because if there was any dirty playing it came from the Germans. Did you even see the German player push Tevez and start to cause a fight???? That´s all they were doing!! Well, Tevez would have kicked his azz in any case. They were attacking him because they knew how good he is, he is unstoppable, AN AMAZING PLAYER!!!!!!!!!! Bad sportmanship? I think Germany wins that title. Worst Sportsmanship I've seen in the World Cup so far and what a bad example of what football represents. Argentina plays with STYLE and PASSION. Something that the Germans lack, so good luck cause you´ll need it!! Just like today!!

Not too sure as I thought the ref who did the Italy game was better. The ref you are on about about missed (in my view) a couple of yellows for diving and persistant fouling. However it looks like they have been given more freedom from FIFA, and being allowed to handle the games better using player management. Which is better all around.

yes, i think the ref of that game was the best yet expecially ocmpared to Valentin Ivanov who lost total control of Portugal/Netherlands game. but at the end of the day, the first team who scored, Portugal, still won but i think it was very brutal match. As for the Germany/Argentina game, the referee had perfect control because the players werent being so harsh to each other and there were barely any yellow cards.
