well there would be very different responses depending on the country. The countries who have won the world cup before would have probably just found it a bit humerous but nothing more. Then theres the whole tier of countries who time after time are there in the quarters, semis, and finals who for some reason just cant seem to win it all. Holland comes to mind specifically. La mechanica naranja (the orange machine) were the favorites to win the world cup on many different occasions, and they just couldnt pull one off. Check republic and Sweeden also come to mind in this group of teams. These teams would literally want to kill themselves. They would agonize over how some country who barely knows what a soccerball looks like managed to win the coveted world cup trophy before them who have been just so close so many times. Lastly, is the group of all the dark horses in world cup history. They would gain a lot of hope and confidence that a team with so little chance of winning were able to pull through and win. Personally I'm from argentina, so i would just find it a bit funny if they won, but since I live in the US now I was cheering for them. I thought the US was almost guarenteed a second round birth when ghana took down the check republic, but it was not to be. Although i think the US needs a new system of finding players at a young age before they will be able to compete at the same level that some of these other countries play at. Right now, Soccer is a sport for rich people in the US. The only way to be discovered at the appropriate age is to play club football which is extremely expensive in the us. Club teams often run $3000 a season. Some people go through the College system, but this means that the player is already 22-23 years old when he starts training with a professional team, and recieving professional training. This is way too late. In argentina, kids start playing soccer for professional clubs by the age of 12. It only costs about 20 pesos a season to join one of these professional clubs so almost everybody with good skill in the country gets discovered very early in developement, and recieve training by the best coaches in the country at a very early age. I'm off to cry a bit more about our fall to the blows of the german side. I wish america luck in future competitions.

For starters, they would probably do the following:

1. Because we don't have the FIFA religion, their shock would be such that they would think that Infidels have taken over.

2. They would suspect that the CIA had their hands into everything related to the '06 World Cup, including but not limited to impacting the food and water of the participating teams.

3. They would think that BALCO had supplied steroids to the U.S. team.

4. They would think that the Bush administration had bought the referees - and told the referees that if they did not make the "proper calls", the referees would end up incarcerated in Guantanamo Bay.

5. They would permanently ban the U.S.A. from ever participating in the World Cup again - and they would convince the Olympic Games Committee to do the same. - and finally

6. They would expel the U.S.A. from the Security Council of the United Nations.

you realize how incorrect your reasoning is? I presume Spain went from being between the "worst countries interior the international" to between the terrific after triumphing the international cup? How does that make any experience in anyway? Brazil's gained 5 titles, Italy has gained 4, Argentina has gained 2, and Canada and Australia have gained 0. as quickly as back however, the two Canada and Australia are greater proper off economically and characteristic a some distance better high quality of residing then Brazil, Argentina, and Italy respectably. to no longer point out the two countries have gained greater then some titles in different activities together with cricket and ice hockey.

i think if USA won the 06 world cup countries all over the world would be terribly shocked as well as the Americans. i dont think they expect to win but if they did, i think they wouldve deserved it coz they wouldnt be in the finals if they didnt go through all the other matches with other countries. see wat im saying? like they would hav won all the other matches maybe in quarter finals, semi, and finals. and if they did win, that means they've won the finals game. and they were good. so i guess they wouldve deserved it. [ see where im coming from? im not American, and definitely not a USA fan either. but i think whoever wins the world cup, deserves it. ]

Who is to tell exactly what they would have done, one thing is sure it would been the biggest, shockiest surprise in the world of sports, no disrespect but except for the americans, not many people saw this team as being able to do much and it did not help that they end up in a tough group!

I think they'd think the game had lost all credibility and they'd be somewhat right. I'm from the US and proud of our team but until this country supports this sport as many other countries do I don't think anyone could realistically envision our winning the cup.

Hmmm, I think that they wouldn't think it's fair. You know, most countries HATE the U.S.A. (If you're wondering, I live in America) I think they'd probably come up with some thing saying that we won unfairly, and try to make us lose, but I don't think that would work. :)

I'm from the USA and I think hell would freeze over.

Though I think the other countries would die of shock.
Everyone would really.

They'd have all put their hands on their hearts and sung the star spangled banner - apart from the argentinians who would start crying & kick off a fight...
