That's a great idea. Unfortunately, it will be a long time before this planet is ready for that. The cultural, language, economic, and religious differences are just too great. If you haven't traveled much outside your country, I recommend it. When you see how other people really live, and how their governments treat them, you begin to get the idea that their lives are nothing like ours.
I don't think the average person would support this now either. Everyone was raised in their culture, and with beliefs of the natural superiority of their ways of life. Trying to find a middle ground would be next to impossible. The rich countries would have to get a whole lot poorer, for example.
I think the one thing that could make this happen in the next 1,000 years would be contact with aliens from other planets. That would let us know how really small our blue planet is. I don't see that happening any time soon.

Who would hate this the most...the newly reformed Christians. I say that because in the Bible a one world government only occurs after the rapture, so longtime Christians and any child alive before the rapture would be gone. So newly reformed Christians would hate the one world government because that is supposed to be how the Anti-Christ gains his power, first by leading as an elected leader, then taking control as if he were a god. So while theoretically this may sound like a good idea, it would start more wars than it would end.

It's a nice ideal. Getting there would be extremely difficult.
People don't like change. People tend to distrust other people. Each person has his/her own agenda that they feel is best from their point of view. Each person would have a different opinion of what the world government should do, how it should operate, etc.

No world leader would give up the power.
Most men want to be dictators or at least in charge.
Governor, chancelor, king, prime minister
Has to come with a title. Their importantce is the primary objective. Hell with peace, or lack of war.
What military comander would want world peace.
He would be out of a job.

I think a one world government is a good idea, however who would run it and how. Who is to say that we could even get along? Especially with different religions and beliefs, languages etc.
