I've gotta agree with Georgie, no way, no how should a major leaguer even pick up an aluminium bat. Leave that crap for the CWS. The PING of the bat should never be heard in a big league stadium...

Metal bats are unsafe for anyone who's out in the field of play. College baseball should ban them.
For the home run derby it could be a disaster. The last thing you'd want to see is someone get nailed by a liner during the derby. Yes the pitcher is behind a screen, but those don't always help.

Never - stick with the wood bats, just like everyone else is suggesting.
Reason: I went up to the "new Comiskey" back in 1992 for a charity event called "Swings for Sox." It cost $30 to get in the door, but you got three swings on the field (the team was out of town), and any subsequent swings cost $10 apiece. Well, I decided to shell out some cash that day and got to take quite a few swings - hey, it was for a good cause, and when would I ever have *that* chance again? Plus, I actually got to meet a few former Sox stars, including "Beltin'" Bill Melton and Carlos May.
Anyway, I actually managed to make some really good contact a few times from honing my swing in the local batting cages (because there was little else to do in my hometown, and it's a fun workout). There is
N O T H I N G
like the sound of a wooden bat crushing a baseball - it is so crisp and pure when you smack it on the sweet spot, especially when your ears are only a couple of feet away from the contact point.

the thought behind the wood and the aluminum bat is that the aluminum bat gets more ping thus making the ball travel farther, this however is not true! when you have the bat speed of many of the great ball players have today the wood literal bends backward like a golf club when you swing or watch it being swung on the pros, this bending is just not as drastic as golf but it is still there, once the ball makes contact with a 90 MPH fastball or any pitch for that matter the ball is "caught" by the bat and on the follow through the ba "releases" the ball and shoots it out. thus making the ball go farther.
they say that one day CWS will switch over to all wood but i have yet to see this day.

It would be stupid, becsue then they would be so many homers and 1 person might last 20 minutes and have 40 homers, that would be boring, because with metal bats you can hit a ball farther, with wooden ones its limites power a bit.

I never thought about it but it would be pretty cool.Instead of a home run derby it should be like "king of the diamond" in MLB'06:the show, where you only get a certain amount of time.

I agree with Georgie on this one! Wood bats are the only way the game should be played.
