Using Dreamweaver and Flash, I can't figure out the correct settings to prevent my web page from having a bunch of blank space on the sides

I hate it hate it hate it when some web developer thinks he knows better than me how big my browser window should be and resizes it for me with Javascript. It's very poor form to do that, and I can't possibly discourage it enough. Your visitors know how big they like their window, and if you change it, they will leave.

Instead, use sound design principals to be sure your site looks good regardless of the window size. It's a little more work, but you'll be glad you did.

The initial page will open up in whatever the browser window is and there is not much you can do about it. However, you can have your start page open a new window with a specific size.
