I want to take branch from a cottonwood and bucket them. but it's summer, will it be ok?

yes it will but it needs to be new growth wood and is best if you root in in a container of sand, keeping the sand damp, not soaking wet. Good luck

Yes, it probably will grow. If you're adamant about having this particular tree, go to your local garden center and ask about a rooting hormone and vermiculite. The nursery professional on hand should be able to direct you.

P.S. Garden center does not mean Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, or any other mass merchant with a "garden" attached to it. Get out the phone book and find a good local nursery.

Cotton wood is one of those trees that ya just can't kill. Yes, it will root if it is a new growth branch..but why would you want to propagate that nasty dirty tree??? IF you want a fast growing tree that is less dirty, try Sycamore. These trees are very pretty, the only down side is that they loose their leaves earlier than most other trees. Cotton wood??? very soft, very dirty, and not so hot in high winds. They also need a LOT of water.
