It's from a numbering system for cataloging Mozart's works developed by Köchel-Verzeichnis. The K is short for "Köchel number".

Basically, Mozart did not give much characterization to his pieces. For example, he wrote a couple of sonatas in C Major. However, when you tell a person to go find Mozart's Sonata in C Major, which one do you take? Thus, a man by the name of Ludwig von Köchel made life much simpler for the rest of the classical world and categorized most of Mozart's works chronologically. Well, supposedly, he categorized everything chronologically. However, some of Mozart's works are labeled by themes (concertos, operas, symphonies, etc.). As a result, due to the influential work of Ludwig von Köchel, "K" stands for Köchel. I hoped this information that I shared was helpful!

it refers to Kochel, the surname of the man who catalogued Mozart's works. They're supposed to go in chronological order, but he seems to have his own system as to how he put them in order (ei- solo piano works are grouped together, opera are grouped together etc.) The only work that is definately in chronological order is his requiem mass, K. 626
