take a one-liter plastic bottle, fill a good 4th of it with blue toilet bowl cleaner (liquid, not jell). Add shredded aluminum foil into the mix (a good amount) screw the cap on, and run, this packs a good enough punch to blow a mailbox to hell.

How long would it take to blow?

yes you can get a empty two liter bottle and two fire works (use piccolo petes) and smash them with a hamer and take the tip off and safe the fuse (U will need it later) after your done smashing the firework put all the powder in the bottle and put on the cap. You will need to put a hole on the cap but small enough to keep fit the fuse into. then light the fuse and run. (dangerous and may blow you hand off.) If your afraid of that get a 5 gallon empty bottle of water (like the arrowhead bottles) and some dry ice and throw in about a cup of water cover it and run far away. This has enough power to knock down a garage door. (this isnt very safe or small but you can try the bombs in little water bottles.

you came up with a few good ones, but aluminum foil and HCl can create a fire, but if you just want an explosion go with sugar in soda. Make sure to seal the bottle and toss off a building for more fun

Ever try model rocketry? It's got well established safety guidlines and you can do a lot with it! Get a simple kit (and your parents' permission) and have a blast!

You could also look into building your own water rockets with 2L soda bottles. No fire, but still pretty cool.

Or trebuchets. Miniature medieval siege engines are always fun.

one thing that's cool is cutting a small hole in a tennis ball and filling it with strike anywhere match heads. You can also save some matches and time by adding small rocks to keep friction. Tape up the hole and it will explode when you throw it. Be careful not to squeeze it or drop it though.
