Sadly whan they make laptops, quality of sound is the lowest priority on the check l. the speakers and sound card of laptops are quite crap, unless you buy something really expensive like the Toshiba Qosimo. The speakers of a laptop have filter for the bass so that the cheap speakers won't get blown, or at least i believe so.

Other wise if you got the money get a decent set of surround sound speakers and an Creative Audigy 2 ZS notebook soundcard. it will use up one of your PCMCIA slots, sadly the speakers may be difficult to transport.

Alternativly if you use it mostly at your home get a cable and hook your laptop up to your hi-fi.

It depends if you have a dedicated sound card or a shared one, either ways go to control panel, search for anything that resembles the sound icon, double click it, and choose which sound you like better, like enabling the surround sound, and checking if speaker is of equal volume , etc..
