I figured tomorrow, I will go to the UN building in NYC and burn a UN Flag to protest their anti-semitic, Anti-American socialistic ways.

After that, I am going to go to a Gay Pride Parade and burn one of their flags, too, in protest against what my beliefs tell me is perverted, godless behavior.

After that, I am going to burn a Koran in front of a mosque because I believe that Islam means terrorism. I have a right to beliefs and I have a right to express them.

After that, I am going to go to a pro-illegal immigration rally and burn the Mexican Flag in protests of all the gang members and criminals Mexico sent over here for us to deal with.

After that, I will burn the Palestinian flag in protest to their constant terror attacks agianst the Israelis.

After that, maybe I'll burn a cross, too.

My question is - if burning the US Flag is legal, why shouldn't all of the above be as well?

I think he/she makes a very good point, it seems the country is ran by homosexual atheist criminals, and if you are not apart then you are against and every one else should suffer. I like the point made here good job.

ONe thing to add back in the day when people use to burn flags they would get jail time what hapen to the good ol days

Actually, aside from the cross, most of those probably would be legal. You might get in trouble for incitement to riot in a couple of those instances (the rallies/parades, maybe the mosque), but there'd likely be no difference for that whether you burned a flag/book or just shouted really loudly through a speaker.

Remember that freedom of expression doesn't always override the general prohibition against things like incitement, which don't care how you say things or what you say, just what the likely results are. Similarly, you'd still have to comply with whatever local laws apply to burning anything, since some regions are drought-stricken and don't allow any burning, even controlled campfires.

The cross may be prohibited as "worst of the worst" since it has a long history of specific racism. There are cases that allow those specific prohibitions, where there is a history of intent to incite lawless action (under the 'fighting words' doctrine).

But aside from general prohibitions that are applicable to any similar non-speech behavior, most of what you list above should be legal. And even though I vehemently disagree with almost every position you've taken above, I'd still support your right to express those opinions in any legal manner.

Everything you listed should be perfectly legal as long as you do it in a peaceful manner and claim you are exercising your freedom of speech.

I'm not an attorney so I'm not 100% sure. However I am a non gang member, non criminal, Director of Information Technology who happens to be Mexican born in the U.S. and I think anyone burning the American Flag is an absolute idiot! Let them try the same thing in Iraq and they'll soon realize just how great this country is and what the flag truly represents!!

Great proposal, if you were to ACTUALLY carry out these acts, do you think you would get into trouble for a hate crime? I mean burning a gay pride flag at a pro-gay rally, I would have to guarantee that you would get thrown in the clink, but yet we can burn American Flags and if anyone wants to put us away, we can thank the recent blocked bill by the gov't that they cant?
Im on the same boat as you bud, I just dont understand.

Who are the people who burn flags? They either hate the country of that flag or do it to get a reaction from people. Defenders of free expression would say that they disagree with the burner's reasons for burning, but defend their right to do it. Either way, its an expression of hatred of some kind. I think its a non-issue. There are much more important things to get riled up about than some punk burning something. We're tough enough to be able to weather that kind of hateful expression. We're not some paranoid third-world dictator who gets pissy at any sign of disrespect. You may as well burn the symbol of something that you hate, it's your protected expression. You may have to get a permit to do it first, city ordinances and all that. You may have to limit where and when the burning occurs, so if you're doing it for attention, call the media and let them know about it.

Wow...striking point. I guess since the United States Flag doesn't really target one individual group of people, and any of the above might be considered hate and racial crimes which are against the law. Freedom of speech can't put any people in danger, and I suppose using methods of burning these things show potentially dangerous habits (once again hate). Still...I really can't say.

Well, flag burning is legal because if you look at your US Flag etiquette and handling you will see that the proper way to dispose of an American Flag is to burn it. So if it were to be Illegal we would have to arrest every person that has properly disposed of a flag.

It refers back to biblical terms.. From dust it came to dust it shall return.. I myself would never throw it in the garbage.. I would burn it.. I would never disrespect the American Flag.. I would only honor the American Tradition... On the other hand.. All people from other surrounding heritages and ethnicities look at this the same way. It is a cultural issue and very edgy.. Because the fought and died over these same issues.. Not that I agree.. But you have to put yourself in someone elses shoes....We burn in honor.. They burn in hatrid...

I think legally the only thing you can protest against IS the USA ! If you do any of those things you're planning, expect to put time, and some creative decorating into a 4x10 cell! Unfortunately political correctness and hate crimes apply to everyone but the solid american.

It is retard, It's call free speech. The only thing stopping you is maybe some sense of what the American Flag stands for and the city ordinance against starting fires within the city limits.
