I am growing a pineapple (the fruit is about 4 inches tall) and there are some ants starting to walk on it. What is a safe and easy way to protect my pineapple?

Becareful applying anything that is toxic to something you may be eating. Plants will absorb the toxic into it's system. Most likley it's the sugar ants that are attracted to the sweetnees of the pineapple plant. I would apply a ring of a goo type of substance around the outside of the container, such as vasaline. The ants stick to it and can't get to the plant. You may have to reapply it if the heat melts it down. But it's safe and it works.
