It's called Fascism..... it was huge in Europe in the 1940's.
Personally, I think it's best that Iran doesn't aquire nukes.....
Some leaders will use them without thinking of the consequences.
PS.
There seems to be a lot of people on here who are under the illusion that most of the anti-US feeling from other countries is unwaranted. Some of the hatred towards the US stems from US foreign policy and activites of the CIA but most of it begins with resentment towards the corporations like Coca-cola, McDonalds and the large financial and mineral corporations. Some countries are seriously affraid for their culture and their freedom. They have a very real concern about the "infection" of Americanisation in their society.
That is the reason why so many countries want to arm themselves with nukes. In the middle East there is growing resentment and hatred towards the US. Threats like " The use of Military force has not been ruled out" do not help to calm countries like Iran and Syria and do not lead them to beleive the US to be friendly.
If you combine these factors with zealous, hateful teachings that bear no relationship to the teachings of the Qur'an being aggressively promoted by maniacs on a power trip. These feed off the fears of decent people and the change in them begins.
It's very easy for a lot of people to blame the US directly for their problems. A large ammount of problems in the third world ARE the fault of US corporations and Government. It comes down to the individual to not accept or indulge in the things on offer from the US.
My point is that the US is becoming an Empire and in doing so they are provoking very dangerous people. Empires grow and consume other other organisations and societies. They deplete their resources, violate their people and their culture and turn the people in to slaves. Would you want that done to your own country? How would it feel to have Taliban troops walking down your street kicking in the doors, needlessly violating, torturing and killing the occupants (you, you neighbours, your children)? Would that make you feel welcoming towards them or would you fight back? you would fight back becaause even the most peace loving among you would not be able to bear what you see.
Realistically, people look for an answer in desperate times and that is most likely to involve religion - that is the same globally.
Any religion in the world promotes peace. So when people adhere to a faith and something American starts to interfere with their faith...porn, Hollywood films, drugs, alcohol, western unmodest fashion etc. the psychological association is there that the US is evil, promoting all these obscene things to tempt people away from God and their faith. Anybody in that situation would be hostile. Add the fear of invasion and that's when terrorism begins. Those people believe they have a very realistic reason to seek WMD's. The problem is that they get carried away with the whole idea that they are good and the US is evil. They then forget to question whether their own actions are right or wrong.
Their countries are also run by politicians who are greedy liars just the same as all of our politicians are. They manipulate their people through the media as well. They promote the anti-US feeling to the people. Before you know it there is a very clear and present danger to the American way of life and that has to be preserved which may involve aggressive military action against a whole group of countries and organisations that are hostile to the US....which, to apply a catchy name to group the whole lot together with out actually directly blaming any of them: we could call them something like the Axis of Evil for example.
See at this point a whole load of false ideas have destroyed peoples ability to think rationally on all sides.
At this point your Government seeks to eradicate any external threats and in fear of being eradicated, other countries seek WMD's. Everybody gets very paranoid. This is the point we are at now. I'd love to be able to tell you a solution but I've never been able to convince idiots like politicians to think first.
Yes, the US is that paranoid.
Yes they are really that affraid.
Yes, they have very realistic reason to be.
Yes, a lot of countries do hate the US and seek to attack it.
And yes it is America's fault.
Basically we've made a real mess of things and can only solve these problems by voting very carefully and not belieiving the hype.
PPS Miss D, North Korea doesn't "officially" have nukes. It has a nuclear programme. They have immense support from other countries who do though, of which the biggest is China. Also you refered to the leaders of Iran an Korea as tyranic. How many other countries have either of those leaders invaded (against the UN resolutions) in the last 10 years? So it's safe to say that perhaps Mr Bush and Mr Blair could be more accurately accused of that. I have been to war. I am digusted by it and especially by the politicians that start wars out of their own greed and stupidity. We're not above any blame just because we are American and English.
Geoffrey W, the US hasn't complied, they just haven't been caught and thy lied.
The UK is uograding it's weapons in favour of more up to date models. And your highly accurate "research" came from US state department report 2005. Oh well, it must be an accurate source then with no political agenda in sight. Grow up.
Navy cheif1968, you're wrong, regime change was the reason for invading Iraq with financial bonuses. I think it's wrong to place the US as being along side the UN. Both US and th UK went to war AGAINST the will of the UN.

Other countries do have nuclear weapons, in fact seven other countries have nuclear weapons. These include China, Russia, UK, France, and most recently Pakistan, North Korea, and supposedly Iran. We can't control whether other countries have nuclear weapons or not so we can't 'allow' or disallow anyone to have them. However, the problem comes up when countries with tyrannic leaders like Iran and North Korea get access to nukes. We can't let crazy people like the leaders of those countries threaten us with nuclear harm.

Here's the thing about that... The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty-or NPT- (of which the U.S. is a part) actually addresses this, and has three major tenets to it.
1. THE NON-PROLIFERATION (no further spreading) OF NUCLEAR ARMS. No one is supposed to be making them anymore. And the U.S has been complying with that part, while other "rogue" states have been completely ignoring it.
2. DISARMAMENT OF CURRENT NUCLEAR WEAPONS STOCKS. In 1991, the U.S. had a stockpile of roughly 10,000 warheads. By 2001, that number had dropped to roughly 6,000. By 2012, the State Department plans to have that number drop to somewhere in the 1,700-2,100 range. So, our government is trying real hard not to be quite so dependent on our nuclear arms programs, while, again, other third world nations attempt to strengthen their nuclear arms supplies.
3. ALLOWANCE FOR PEACEFUL NUCLEAR PROGRAMS. i.e. Energy programs. Clearly this one needs no explanation. We all know the U.S. uses nuclear power to provide things like electricity. Surely no one has a problem with that?
Now, a couple of other facts that have been pointed out
a) The U.S. is not the only major power with nuclear arms. The U.N. Security council permanent members (Russia, UK, China, France, and us) are ALL allotted these arms, but are asked to follow the NPT. And the Five nations are doing that.
b) Many smaller, angrier nations DO have nuclear arms, and despite the NPT, continue to develop them.
So before you start talking about "Why is it OK for the U.S. to have nukes and not everyone else?" Maybe you should do a little research and get your facts straight (it took me 5 minutes, all I had to do was google "Nuclear Non-proliferation" to find the information I just gave you.)

Hey Neal!..I've noticed that your entire argument against my actual fact-finding didn't list anything but opinion (or, if you are spouting "facts" you failed to show anyone where your information actually comes from to debunk mine...). I answered in a grown up manner, buddy. I did some research, and left the name calling to the 12 year olds.

You need to a little research before posting a question.
The following counties are known to possess nuclear weapons: United States, Russia, China, Great Britain, Israel, India, France, and Pakistan.
Canada and South Africa also possessed nuclear weapons but have dismantled them.
In reference to your question, all the US and UN are trying to do is prevent rouge states from possessing nuclear weapons.

We now understand just how dangerous these weapons really are. A small suitcase sized nuke can level Boston and make it inhabitable for thousands of years. We cannot take the risk that another countries security is good enough to keep these weapons out of the hands of terrorists and those who would use them to kill innocent people.

If Iran got nukes, does that increase or decrease the odds of nuclear annihilation? How is it paranoia to be against an increase the odds of nuclear disaster?

you know what?
i dont know! i think it is really wrong but i think one reason *may* be that there are alot of countries out there that are stil very under developed and may not know what to to with them or what the right thing to do with them would be.but at the same time, with a monkey like george bush leading ourer country im not so shure he knows whats right to do with these weapons eeither.i think its aslo a fear that terrorist might get a hold of them, but it will probly happen some day , unfortunetly. i think that this world needs to just do away with weapons and war and live in peace, but its so immpossible until we stop infatuating ourselves with violence.
PEACE!!!WE NEED PEEEEEAAAAACCCCEEE!!!!!!!

Because many other countries in the world are run by brutal, cruel, oppressive and unstable dictators who are much worse than Bush ever thought of being.
