Your turtle probably drowned after not being able to right itself, assuming it was an aquatic turtle. If it was a tortoise, they cant swim.

well I don't know how it could get into that position. the only way I can think of is if it was trying to climb onto a rock or something and it flipped backwards and couldn't turn itself back around and drowned. If you plan on getting another turtle you should make sure the tank water is deep enough for it to be able to get out of that postition if it gets stuck. I remember once my turtle slipped out of my hands and fell into the water on it's back and I had to rescue it.

Hi, My turtle did the same thing. He more than likely was trying to climb something and flipped over on his back into the water. he wasn't able to flip back over because of the depth of the water. Sorry for your loss.

I'm not sure how he got on his back but when I was babysitting the persons dog started dieing and it was jerking and gaping and convulsing before it died, thats prob what happended to your turtle

Because of the way the body is balanced, a lot of animals die on their sides or backs but it is not a universal rule.

well as far as i know most of them die on the backs or float on the backs once they are dead
