Disposal hums but doesn't run. Also, onced plugged in, it "runs" automatically until it trips the breaker.

Sounds like the disposal is shot. The Badger was a cheap disposal when it was being made, meant for a cheap alternative when bidding jobs. You can try to loosen it up with a disposal wrench or allen wrench. Find the slot on the bottom of the disposal right in the middle. Use the wrench and turn the disposal back and forth to loosen it up. If it still hangs up, try spraying WD-40 in the disposal. Sometimes that loosens up the teeth. All in all, in my opinion, change it out with a Insinkerator Pro Series disposal. With it tripping the breaker, it is on it's last leg! Good luck!

You have something lodged in it. It hums because it is bound up and the rotor is not turning. At this point it is drawing locked rotor current. You should immediately turn it off when this happens because you are going to permanently damage the motor windings. You should have a special wrench that was furnished with the diaposal unit.l It is hexagon shapen and fits into the bottom of the disposal right in the middle of it. Unplug the disposal and put this wrench in the hex shaped screw, which is actually the motor shaft end, and try to turn it. If the disposal does not turn very easily then you definately have something lodged in the unit. If it does turn easy then you can plug it in again and try it. If the unit still just hums or trips the breaker it is time to remove it from the sink. One thing bothers me...You say it trips the breaker. Do you mean the little breaker on the disposal or the breaker in your electrical panel? The one on the disposal is actually a thermal overload and it should trip anytime the disposal is overloaded or bound by something. If it is tripping the one in your main breaker panel, you need professional electrical help. Anyway, if after trying to turn the unit with the wrench and it doesnot work, you are most likely looking at replacing the unit.

I once had a badger stuck in my disposal. Stick your tongue in there and he'll grab onto it and you'll be able to pull him out. Good luck getting Bucky the Badger off your face though.

it's probably jammed, w/ switch in off position, stick plunger handle in at angle and work back and forth to get it free, or get 1/4 inch allen wrench and stick it in allen hole in center of bottom
