Sounds like she's morally bankrupt. It'll catch up with her eventually. If she would do this to a stranger, what would she do to her "friends"? At what point does a harmless little lie evolve into something she can't get out of? To answer your question, no the companies probably won't catch on if she doesn't hit the same companies too often, however.......

For just an ice-cream sandwich or something, it's cheaper to give the coupon than to pursue it. However, if she does it with the same company too many times, they could check on it, and if they found proof that she was lying, they could charge her with fraud.

You mean she would like go to albertsons, buy ice cream, and send them an email stating it was melted? Does'nt make since. Where does she get their email address? And how would it be the stores fault that her icecream was melted after she got home?

Well, it's totally dishonest, but I would think that the companys would have a hard time proving that a product was in good condition. They'll do most anything to avoid bad publicity and keep you buying their products.

When I was in college my room mate and I did that! We sent letters to companies we bought products from and said the stuff was bad. One I remember was "Land o Lakes" butter. We said it was rancid but it was okay. They sent us a few dollars!
LOL, it was definitely illegal and a morally wrongful thing, but we did it and got away with it. I wouldn't do it today, or recommend anyone else do it.

it's not illegal but its kinda cheating the company and they do keep a record of customer dissatisfaction. she needs to be careful because a lot of products are from the same parent company and you dont realize it (like proctor and gamble) and someone may catch on to her down the line.

Your friend is the reason prices are so high on many, many things. We all pay the cost of fraud no matter how small. He/She'll get theirs someday...I hope sooner rather than later.
