I am 13 weeks pregnant and have been feeling pressure in my lower abdomen for a little over a day now.. Sometimes it feels like bloating and other times it feels like a period type cramp... I was tested yesterday for a urinary tract infection and it was negative and I have NO discharge or spotting... I had an appt with my OB today and heard the baby's heartbeat and had a pelvic exam and all is good... Could it be body changed or dehydration or something else completely different??? Any possible explanations would be appretiated!!!

Maybe it is just your uterus expanding to accommodate the growing baby - it kinda feels like you're having cramps because the ligaments start stretching around that area.

The bloating is normal and is probably just from excess gas or bowel distention, and sometimes even water retention can do that to you.

goodluck!

I started feeling intense heaviness in my uterus at about 13 weeks. It comes and goes. Sometimes there is pain. Two doctors said they didn't know what it could be, maybe a bladder infection. There was no bladder infection. I've seen the baby twice on ultrasound since this started, and it is fine, growing and waving and kicking. I'm now 19 weeks 4 days and still feel it now and then.

I think it is my body feeling the weight of the growing baby. I get used to that weight, and then it grows some more. I no longer freak out about it. Especially now that I feel the baby kick a little.

What you're probably feeling is the beginnings of a growing uterus. This will give you pressure in your abdomen. This is something that your OB should have told you. Make sure next visit, you bring with you a list of questions so you don't forget any.
Light cramping is also normal - it's signs of your ligaments beginning to stretch from your growing uterus. Also, cramping is a sign of dehyrdation. Make sure that you're drinking plenty of fluids - key is still the 8-8oz glasses of water a day.

Pretty soon, you'll not only have the feeling of pressure in your abdomen, but a baby having a party in there.

Maybe you have a cyst on your ovary that is feeling the pressure of the baby growing. If you do they will be able to see it on your ultrasound in a few weeks.

You might also have the round ligaments pulling, it happens more and more as the baby grows. I always get the bloating feeling too when pregnant. Just you wait until you really start to get bigger...you won't believe the pulls, twinges and aches you get.

I'm sure your doc told you to watch for fever, bleeding or serious cramping...trust your body, you know it better than anyone!

Its just part of the beautful thing called life and pregnancy! Congrats! Your body is going through soo many changes day to day! Its amazing. Your insides are streching and making way for that growing peanut that will push every thing from your kidneys to your stomach to different locations in your body. Yes its very uncomfy at times but if for some reason it does NOT feel right call you doc right away. Best of luck to you! I am 18 weeks pregnant too! With secone baby!

Have you ever thought about the fact that this is your FIRST time your body is pregnant and its just getting used to all the changes your new human is taking on??!!! Sounds like normal affects of what will continue to become more uncomfortable but WELL WORTH ALL THE PAIN. There is nothing like pregnancy and the sensations that it comes with. Obviously if your OB sees and checks all is fine then guess what... ALL IS FINE. Enjoy pregnancy!

its your baby growing, congratulations, your doing your job right, the uterus is expanding and that's the pain that you feel, i know it's a little scary , I'm 14 weeks pregnant and know that exact same feeling, my doctor said as long as it doesn't get worse then simple period cramps and if there is no spotting then don't worry. Keep drinking lots of water even though.

hey girl...my fourth child is nearly six months old, I remember those cramps and with each baby they came earlier, some say you get them the same time you would normally get period cramps, others say they are the uterus growing....with all those crazy hormones, especially in the begining, who knows!! but every time I asked my gyno about 'cramps', they said it was normal....as you probably already know;) good luck! and don't sweat it, cause not only do they not go away....they get worse
