I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner with nearly 80,000 miles on it. I have a good friend, and he and his dad are car experts. Should I let them do the tune up, go to my Toyota dealership, or to some shop around town?

I recommend the dealer. They are more familiar with your model of vehicle, and usually they are pretty competitive on maintenance. They will also be more likely to find other problems that may be hiding because they will know what to look for on your car.

the dealership uses factory parts. this is good and bad. you will pay more for factory parts. also , dealerships flat out charge more for inspections, time on job. use a good mechanic or shop...it's all about money !

If the car is still under warranty then I'd take it to the dealership, otherwise take it to whomever you feel comfortable with.

Sure let the friends do it. You can even help and learn a little bit. The cost will be cheaper and you will have no warranty, but it just may bring you and your friends closer together(or farther apart).

the dealer will always charge you more to do so, if you can find a good auto place or your friends to do it go for it.
