Any band name that starts with "the" is a good band name, because it makes sense. When you announce the approach of a group of people, it should be prefixed with "the," like "The Beatles." Heck even the name "The Cure" works! The band can say, "We are The Cure."
The stupidest names are like, "Switchfoot." What a dumb band name. "We are Switchfoot." It makes no sense at all.
A name doesn't have to have "the" in it, though. I've heard of a band called "Tribe 11." That makes sense. "We are Tribe 11." It should makes sense.
Other silly band names, "Deathcab for Cutie." They were probably high on something when they chose that name. "Three Doors Down," and any other drawn-out names... Just weird!
Another name that works without "the" prefixed is "Insane Clown Posse." If the name is plural, it will work. You can't really title a group of people with a singular word, like "Queen."
Ugh... Band names just bug me sometimes, when they don't make sense!

Like half of the bands out there have funny/odd names.
Don't have time to list all the ones I like, but here's a few:
Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, Foo Fighters, Breaking Benjamin, Atreyu, Incubus.

This year in my high school our American Literature class was focused around the American Dream. One of our projects, after finishing reading "The Great Gatsby" was to make a CD that contained songs reflecting the themes of the book that related to the American Dream. Afetr searching for songs online, there was one group that many people found: Gatsby's American Dream. That was their name.
