does anyone but me think that j.k. rowling made the statements regarding the deaths in her last book in order to generate more publicity for the final book? so far, she has assured herself that everyone will be talking about and anticipating the last book now more than ever. what is your take on this?

f.y.i. i love the books and cannot wait fo the final installment!

in regards to her not needing more publicity. i agree that the WORLD is awaiting her final book, i guess that isnt what i meant by the question. i suppose i meant that she will keep everyone talking, keep hp fans speculating away as to the outcome. to me its like her way of adding to the mix. harry is a part of all of us and as we specualte and she gets feedback, she puts part of us in harry and the wizarding world. does any of that make sense?

Um, she rarely does interviews, and I personally was happy that she gave us some details about Book 7. I don't think she was trying to generate more publicity; she doesn't want or need that. J.K. Rowling is the creator of a huge fandom, and likes to connect to her readers. I, like you, absolutely adore the books, and cannot wait for the final one to be released. Here are my theories of people who I think might die (besides Harry) in Book 7:

Ron: Besides being Harry's best mate, we haven't really seen him prove himself in times of danger and battle. He showed his strengths back in Book 1 when during the giant chess match during the hunt for the Philosopher's Stone. There is a theory that Ron will sacrifice himself for Harry in the final match against Voldemort.

Pettigrew: Do I have to explain it? Let's see... He betrayed the Potters, he helped Voldemort get his body back, and is an all-around bad guy. I think it's time to go, and that the life-debt that he has to Harry will be involved somehow.

Draco: I think that apart from being "bad", Draco is really a tragic character. His family are Death Eaters. He's got a lot to live up to. I got the kind of feeling that he was forced in the Book 6 to serve Voldemort. All the stress he underwent, the frustration, the anxiety... I mean, the poor boy was misguided. Remember that he is only about 17. People can make horrible mistakes when they are at that age. Unfortunately in Draco's case, it might cost him his life. He's in too deep.

Professor Trelawney: I think there is a possibility of her death in Book 7. She's always predicting how people will die, and seeing strange, dark omens everywhere. I think that is a kind of subtle foreshadowing. She sees death everywhere, why can't it be hers? I just wonder how this would play out, and how important it would be to the actual plot.

Percy: Hmm... Anyone sure which side he is really on?

Who will get a reprieve? I have an inkling that it is one of the Dursleys.... or Snape.

Personally, I don't think JKR needs to generate more publicity for the final book. I think it will sell just fine without her saying two words about it. I think she gives fans clues while they wait for the book to come out because she knows they want them, they want to know what's going on.

everyone WILL be waiting for this book more then the others b/c its the last book and its basically the follow-up to every other book. She does not need more publicity, everyone is already addicted to her books.

She's killing the characters to keep anyone else from writing stories based on them, as if THAT'S ever stopped anyone.

She doesn't need to generate publicity. It's, well, just a little popular already.
