My throat is killing me. It's hurting when I swallow, turn my head, etc. It feels like someone has their hands around my neck and is squeezing so that I can't breathe...or another analogy--like it's coated with peanut butter and there's a lump at the bottom...very 'thick' like. I haven't eaten anything I'm allergic to and don't suffer from allergies. Tylenol lessens the pain, but it's now gotten bad enough that i can't swallow the pill. My hubby still thinks it's allergies. HELP!

I should also mention that my doctor can't see me until late next week....

Sounds like your glands or swollen or the beginning of strep throat. See your doctor.

If you honestly can not swallow a pill or breathe, it's time to see the doc. If you think it is an allergic reaction, take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) NOW.

Otherwise, try some ibuprofen every 4-6 hours (unlike Tylenol, it will help with inflammation in addition to relieving pain).

It definitely sounds like it could be strep throat. You need to see a doctor for it, but you can gargle with warm salt water to help start fighting the infection. It could also possibly be esophageal stricture, a tightening of your throat. Allergies are also a possibility. Bottom line is it's time for a trip to the doctor!

If it is allergies, take some benedryll. Thats good for immediate allergy symptons. If you take that and it doesnt feel any better, you can probably rule out allergies.

Alternativly, I am a HUGE fan of Tylenol Cold and Allergy-for those days when you can't be bothered trying to figure out which is which.

This sounds like it is serious enough to go see a doctor at emergency. They need to see what is going on if you can't swallow or breathe properly. It may be allergies or it may be something else. I won't get better until it is seen to.
Best wishes in your recovery!

this stuff is going around. i have had a sore throat for a few days now too. the best thing to do is to keep your doctors app. and then just relax. don't go out cause its just going to irritate it worse. try eating and drinking cool things. if it hurts really really bad it could be strep throat or it could be a cold that is going around. your glands are probably swollen and that's why you feel like your throat is tight and closing. its hard to sleep i know. try breathing in moisture from a dehumidifier if you have one or hot water.

My grandmother is Hindu-catholic(don't ask, its a long story) she goes to India twice every year and brings back a bunch of herbal remedies and solutions to every day problems. When i had a sore throat, she told me to blend peaches and lettuce together and drink a cup of it. My throat felt better within the hour.
It looks like the most disgusting thing you could imagine, but don't knock it until you've tried it(its actually not that bad)

tip: slide the lemon or lime and mix in natural thick Honey...warm it up for about few minutes in microwave or steam water to make the juice out of that mix...stir it and drink it all including lemon and lime...you will feel better.
