Looks like us straight folk have blown it. The divorce rate is over %50. Why not give gays a shot? So isn't this really a religious issue, when you get right down to it? And if it is, shouldn't it stay the hell out of our courts? Seperation of church and state, remember?

Marriage, straight or gay, should not have anything to do with any government. Period. It is a decision to be made (or not made) between the individuals involved.

Nice avatar, btw.

Funny thing most of the answers while interesting aren't correct. The reason this is an issue is because of the tax system giving a break to marrieds. Plain and simple the government would stand to loose Billions of dollars in tax revenue if they allowed gay marriage.

So far as religious arguements go...it's funny that religions preach love, yet when it is same gender love it suddenly becomes sinful. What a bunch of hypocritical crap. People should be free to choose who they want to marry regardless of gender if for no other reason than that it would propigate lovingness through society.

Marriage has to be reconized by at least the state government for various reasons. Yeah, the Conservatives view marriage as a Holy Union for the purpose of procreation. So old people who can no longer have children should not be allowed to marry. People who cannot or will not have children should be denied marriage, right? If two Atheists get married, is it still a 'Holy Union'?

Some divorces aren't for a bad reason(i.e divorces because of abuse, constant fights, neglect, etc)

I'm not saying divorce is good! But if it's dangeros or something to be in the marriage then a divorce is necessary...

It's not a 'religious issue' it's a what some people think is right!!

I don't know about anybody else, but it is a religion issue for me and I am not afraid to say it. I don't agree with gay marriage and I never will. I don't care if the heterosexual divorce rate hits 100%, I still wouldn't support gay marriage.

actually there is no seperation, except that the state can not make laws interfering with the church, the church has always and will always have the right to get its rights protected also.

And it sounds better than just saying homosexual sex is merley perverse animal lust that degrades the human race.

That is the argument we really beleive, but the other sounds more politically correct

The Goverment of The United States is getting good money for doing NOTHING. Dam, If we could get elected, we could debate the color of your dog. We would spend BILLIONS on weather red or brown is ok. Then we can let dogs get married, so as not to live in sin.

because they're arrogant enough to think they can speak on behalf of all married people. they're wrong, and they sure as hell don't speak for me.

edit: coombs, what's your point? who cares about what one couple has done?

sandra: this is NOT a christian country. this is a free country. the founding fathers did NOT establish a state religion so that each citizen would be free to determine his own spirituality.
