It most likely will never melt, as Mars is far from the Sun. If it does, it might not last long, as it has no atmoshpere and a weak gravitational pull.

Sorry Jon,

The ice on Mars melts and refreezes on a regular schedule. The planet does not have enough available surface ice to melt that would create a livable planet for man. It might be possible to find an ice comet and mine enough water to help Mars along but I doubt that the people and leaders of Earth think this is important. I also think that when the big one hits, we will still be here because of the small minded people who are afraid to look forward and out. And, because we will still be here, we will die. The famous Physicist, Steven Hawkings, has already called for moving man into space as quickly as possible to assure survival of the human race. Again, if we stay here, we die, it's just a matter of time...

The ice on planet mars will never melt and become an earth like planet. The reason is that the core of Mars is dead.

It will be the same year we somehow produce an atmosphere on Mars with a hundred times its current content of gasses. When you figure out how to do that, I'll move. And even then, we will have to keep replenishing that atmosphere every couple million years, as Mars gravity is less that Earth, gasses escape easier.

Either in 50-100 years when humans start terraforming Mars or in a few billion years when the Sun turns into a red giant.

Mars is not an Earth like planet as it is too small for its gravity to hold an atmosphere that we could breathe.

Won't happen. Mars has almost no atmosphere and is VERY cold.
